Engagement Rings

The Beauty & Tradition of Engagement Rings
One of the most exciting moments of any marriage proposal is when a loved one drops to one knee to ask for their beloved's hand in marriage. Of course, aside from the excitement created by the actual proposal, there is also a great deal of adrenaline created by the reveal of the engagement ring. After all, many people feel a proposal is incomplete without it. Often hidden away in a tiny box, just waiting to be opened by the anxious future bride or groom, the engagement ring is a physical representation of the love the couple shares with one another, as well as a symbol of the future the couple will soon be creating with one another together.
When most people think of engagement rings, they picture the classic solitaire diamond engagement ring design featuring a stunning central stone set in yellow gold. While it is true that this remains the most popular choice on the bridal jewellery market for engagement rings today, this is very different from some of the earlier engagement ring designs and by no means the only choice offered for modern couples on the market today.
The tradition of the engagement ring came from some fairly unusual beginnings. In some cultures, women were presented with hand crafted items, such as spoons or gloves, as a way to show their beloved's intent to marry them. Tradition would have it that if the woman would then show up in public within a set amount of time wearing the items they had been gifted, such as the spoon around her neck on a ribbon or the gloves on her hand, that it was to be taken as a sign that she had accepted the proposal and agreed to marry. While these notions were very quaint compared to modern traditions, they served their purpose at the time.
Eventually, engagement rings became more of a sign of the ability of the person proposing to financially care for the person they hoped to marry. Because of this, engagement rings in turn became much more valuable, being made from more precious metals and even inlaid with precious gems and other stones. Naturally, as the value of the engagement rings increased, so to did their beauty, as it was generally easy to make more expensive materials more visually attractive.
Today, engagement rings are as beautiful as ever. They can be found in a range of styles and designs to suit even those with the most discerning tastes. From simple and dainty to elaborate and bold, engagement rings can truly express the personality of the person wearing them. Whether you prefer the traditional precious metals of yellow or white gold, the luxuriousness of platinum, or the revolutionary beauty of palladium, engagement rings are available in a range of materials designed to cater to even the most active of lifestyles. From single stones to brilliant multi-stone designs, there really is no limit to dazzle and sparkle you can have in your engagement ring. Of course, there are also a large number of men's engagement rings on the market now as well, giving everyone the chance to show their love for one another and show the world their beautiful commitment to the one they love.
