If you are on the market for a diamond ring for your beloved, regardless of whether it is an engagement ring, an eternity ring, or just an ‘I Love You’ ring, there are several tricks to keep in mind when selecting the perfect piece of jewellery.
One of the trickiest parts for some people is figuring out what size ring to buy. If you have been married for years, this may be an easy task. For new couples, however, the deed gets slightly trickier. Your best bet is to take her jewellery shopping, not necessarily for a diamond ring though. Tell her you want to get her a birthstone ring or some other similar piece of jewellery for an upcoming birthday, holiday, or special occasion. Take her to the jewellery store under the guide of wanting to see what styles of rings or choices of gemstones she likes best. As she tries on gemstone rings from the case, you will be able to determine what size ring she wears. Even is she isn’t trying jewellery on the right finger, a well trained jeweller will be able to determine the correct size depending on where you plan the diamond ring to be worn.
Another option is to ask her family or friends. While her brother-in-law may not know her ring size off the top of his head, there’s a good chance her sister or best friend may know. Even if they don’t, I’m sure they can find a reason to conveniently borrow one of her rings for a day in order to determine what size she wears.
The final choice is to do the deed yourself. If you have access to her jewellery box, and aren’t at risk for being caught ‘borrowing’ any of her jewellery, it should be easy enough for you to get one of her favorite rings to determine what size it is. Make sure to choose a ring that you know she wears on a semi-regular basis. It won’t do much good to have a ring sized that she wore as a teenager that only fits on her pinky now.
Even if all of these methods fails, take heart in the fact that any precious metal ring can be sized to fit perfectly at your local jewellery shop, usually in a matter of hours.
