If you take a look in any jewellery store you may notice that the majority of diamond jewellery being sold, diamond earrings in particular, are being marketed solely towards women. In fact, diamond rings tend to be one of the few luxuries that reserve a small section of their target audience for me, and even then the selection tends to be somewhat limited. The growing trend of men’s diamond earrings, however, doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon and has in fact increased tremendously over the past several years and diamond earrings for men have become a more widely accepted concept.
Ironically enough, the custom of piercing the ears originated as a male tradition, often done to show rank or status in a culture. As the rise in popularity of diamond earrings grew, however, the tradition became one restricted almost exclusively to women. Many years ago, men began to take back their rights to wear diamond earrings, often just a single stud in one ear and partly as a nod to the punk generation who decided that males had every right to wear earrings as women did. Eventually, the fact that more and more men were wearing diamond earrings proudly passed from controversial to commonplace. Now it seems that men’s diamond earrings are becoming nearly as common and as popular as women’s diamond earrings.
The most popular style choice for men’s diamond earrings has long been stud diamond earrings. Typically found in square or round cuts, these types of diamond earrings offer the sophistication of diamond earrings while also remaining conservative in overall appearance. Occasionally, men will also choose to wear small hoop diamond earrings, although solitaire diamond earrings are the more prevalent. Pave set diamond earrings are also a string contender on the men’s diamond earrings market, often found in more geometric shapes such as squares or triangles.
With the rise in popularity of coloured diamond earrings, the demand for black diamond earrings is quickly increasing. While men may also choose from the other hues in the coloured diamond earrings range, but black or the black and white diamond combination are the most sought after.
