Protecting Platinum Eternity Rings (cont.)

07 September 2010 | Purely Diamonds

We’ve already discussed the proper cleaning techniques for platinum eternity rings, as well as some common situations when platinum eternity rings should not be worn.  There are, however, many other factors to keep in mind when trying to ensure the lasting beauty of the platinum eternity rings themselves.

Another situation that many women would not think to remove their platinum eternity rings for is swimming.  Ocean water has a high salt content which can cause discolouration of platinum eternity rings when they are exposed for an extended period of time. The chlorine content in swimming pools can also damage the finish of platinum eternity rings as well, making it highly recommended to tuck your platinum eternity rings away before going for a swim.

If you are a participant in or simply a fan of any types of sports, this may be another time you want to leave your platinum eternity rings at home.  Contact during sports can easily harm the setting in platinum eternity rings, increasing the chances of losing a diamond in the process.  Likewise, simply watching from the bleachers puts platinum eternity rings close to some very hard surfaces, such as the bleachers themselves, which can lead to dents and scratches.  Platinum eternity rings are made from a softer metal than gold, increasing the likelihood of surface blemishes occurring over time.  On the upside, platinum eternity rings can be refinished by a professional jeweller as needed to restore the original shine and finish.

When it comes to ensuring the safety of platinum eternity rings, one of the first things to do is designate one or two specific storage locations for your platinum eternity rings when they are not being worn.  Most people recommend a spot in the kitchen, and anther in the bathroom.  The platinum eternity rings should not, however, be stored loose, as a small ring container or ring box is the best place to keep them.  The platinum eternity rings should also never be stored to closely to a sink, as it increases the risk of the platinum eternity rings getting knocked over and going down the drain.  Having the in their own container greatly reduces this risk as well.

Protecting Platinum Eternity Rings

07 September 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Platinum eternity rings are truly things of beauty regardless of the occasion on which they are given.  While the process of shopping for platinum eternity rings may seem like the most important step, caring for the platinum eternity rings after purchase is much more crucial.  With these simple rules, however, consumers can rest assured that their platinum eternity rings stay in the best shape possible for years to come.

The first important step in caring for platinum eternity rings is, of course, keeping them clean at all times.  This step may involve a weekly cleaning ritual for platinum eternity rings, as well as a monthly or semi-annual routine.  Platinum eternity rings should be cleaned at home on a weekly basis using a dip in warm soapy water, scent and dye free soaps work best.  The platinum eternity rings can be gently scrubbed with a soft bristled toothbrush and then patted dry with a clean cloth.  Over the counter jewellery cleaning solutions can be used for weekly cleaning as well, but consumers should take extra care to ensure they are purchasing the correct product, as solutions designed for other metals or gemstones can actually damage platinum eternity rings.  There are also sonic jewellery cleaners on the market that work well for monthly cleaning of their platinum eternity rings.

For a more of a deep cleaning routine, a visit to a professional jeweller is recommended at least twice a year for platinum eternity rings.  The jeweller will not only give the platinum eternity rings a professional cleaning, using specialized chemicals formulated specifically for platinum eternity rings, he can also inspect the platinum eternity rings for any damages or wear and tear that should be noted.

When it comes to protecting your platinum eternity rings investment, the most important thing to do is learn to properly care for your ring on a daily basis.  Because of the reactions that some chemicals may have with platinum eternity rings, they should always be removed when handling cleaning supplies or other harsh detergents.  Gloves are an option, but liquids are still able to slip into the gloves at times and end up in contact with the platinum eternity rings anyway.

Stacking Eternity Rings

31 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

One of the continuing trends n the eternity rings market is stacking eternity rings.  After all, why have single eternity rings to wear on your finger when you can have two or more.  Stacking eternity rings are not only fashion forward, they are also cost conscious as well.

One of the continuing trends n the eternity rings market is stacking eternity rings.  After all, why have single eternity rings to wear on your finger when you can have two or more.  Stacking eternity rings are not only fashion forward, they are also cost conscious as well.

While traditional eternity rings have long been popular, particularly for anniversaries and childbirths, stacking eternity rings are currently the hot trend on the market.  Unlike standard eternity rings, designed to be worn alone or with an engagement ring, stacking eternity rings are much slimmer and contain much smaller stones within them.  This not only allows the rings to be comfortable to wear, it also makes it easier to wear two or more stacking eternity rings at the same time.

Stacking eternity rings are not only whimsical in nature, they are also very practical as well.  If a woman wishes to wear four eternity rings stacked together at one time for a special social occasion, she can.  For more subdued or professional environments, she can then opt for a low key look by wearing just two of the stacking eternity rings at a time.  The exact number of eternity rings worn can be customized to better suit the exact occasion during which they will be worn.

Most stacking eternity rings feature flush edges on the band, ensuring that the process of mixing and matching eternity rings together to wear at the same time is effortless.  Other stacking rings can be bought in sets, feature a puzzle like edge on the eternity rings that allows them to essentially interlock with one another.

Stacking rings are also extremely cost conscious as well.  The first one or two rings can be bought as an anniversary present, with additional rings bought for other occasions at a later date.  The eternity rings themselves can essentially be upgraded simply by purchasing additional rings to go with them.  The cost of stacking rings is also beneficial as the price per carat of smaller diamonds can be significantly lower than that of larger stones.

Diamond Wedding Rings All The Rage

27 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Traditionally, wedding rings were nothing more than plain pieces of metal, or even wood depending on how far back you go.  The circular shapes of the wedding rings was designed to represent the unending commitment a couple was making to one another through marriage and the placement of the wedding rings on the finger believed to bear the straightest access to the heart was designed to symbolize the importance of the commitment in a more romantic fashion.  While traditional wedding rings are still very common choices, diamond wedding rings are slowly growing on the popularity scales around the world.

One primary benefit of diamond weddings rings is that they give the husband a chance to have some sparkle as well.  While a typical men’s diamond ring may be too much for some, a carefully placed diamond (or two or ten) within their wedding rings will give them just enough sparkle to have their weddings rings noticed just as often as their wives’ wedding rings.  In most cases, men’s wedding rings that bear diamonds often have small stones set into the bands of the wedding rings themselves, commonly utilizing the bezel set method to offer a flush surface.  Geometric cuts, such as princess cut stones, are the most common choice for men’s wedding rings, offering a modern look with a masculine feel.

The wives also get their own benefit from diamond studded wedding rings as well and there are two unique ways she can take advantage of the dazzling wedding rings.  The first option would be to select wedding rings that match the husbands, opting for smaller stones set into the wedding rings for just the right amount of glimmer.  This option also plays well with the engagement ring, as the diamond in the wedding ring and the diamonds in the engagement rings will play well off one another, reflecting the beauty of one another.  The second choice is to go for full glamour and choose a diamond eternity ring to be used instead of standard wedding rings.  This creates the ultimate bridal jewellery set and gives the chance to have wedding rings surrounded with diamonds to complement the diamond engagement rings.

Perfect Finishes For Platinum Eternity Rings

26 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

When couples are looking to buy platinum eternity rings, there are several options to consider.  From the size of the stones to the shape they are cut in, each small detail that goes into the platinum eternity rings has to work together to create a beautiful finished product.  One thing that many people fail to consider in advance is what finish they would like on their platinum eternity rings, which can create a tremendous impact on the finished piece.  In general, platinum eternity rings can come in one of three standard finishes, each with their own unique appearance and qualities-satin, brushed, or high polished.

The most common finish found on platinum eternity rings is the high polished finish.  Also the most popular choice for most jewellery in general, a high polished look offers the most shine possible for platinum eternity rings.  This is particularly important since the added shine of the reflective finish works to further amplify the natural fire and sparkle of the diamonds in the platinum eternity rings themselves.

Another finish that is rapidly growing in popularity, particularly with platinum eternity rings, is the satin or matte finish.  Satin finished platinum eternity rings still offer the beautiful white metal colour of platinum, however, their overall finish is non-reflective for the most part.  The low shine low gloss appearance of platinum eternity rings offers a unique contrast that  high gloss rings can’t offer.  Instead of adding to the sparkle of the platinum eternity rings, the satin finish provides a beautiful contrast to the dazzling diamonds in the platinum eternity rings that helps accentuate the diamond even more.

The brushed finish used on platinum eternity rings is very similar to the satin finish in nature.  It is typically low gloss and low shine in nature, but has a more textured feel to it when compared to standard matte finished platinum eternity rings.  This is created by taking a satin surface, adding a low gloss coating on top of it, and then modifying the coating by brushing it with an abrasive material.  The finished products are platinum eternity rings with the beautiful contrast of a satin ring, but with an added layer of textural dimension.

Eternity Ring Setting Guide

25 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Eternity rings were designed to symbolize unending love and devotion, whether it be between a mother and child or a man and woman.  This is the primary reason eternity rings are set completely around with diamonds, as in full eternity rings, or just across the visible upper portion, as with half eternity rings.  One of the easiest ways to give eternity rings a twist is by looking at the various settings that eternity rings can accommodate.

Traditional prong set eternity rings do well to hold the multiple stones in place.  This setting is typically reserved for half eternity rings, as full eternity rings utilizing prong settings may be somewhat uncomfortable to wear for extended periods of time.  Four prongs rise up from the band to hold each stone securely in place, also allowing the stones to be set above the band for added height in the rings.  The benefit of prong set eternity rings is that they can easily accommodate a variety of stone shapes and sizes.

For full eternity rings, there are several setting types that provide a more flush surface, as well as added comfort for extended wearing.

Channel set eternity rings are likely the most common choice for many women.  Channel set eternity rings are created with a long groove or trench in the bands of the eternity rings themselves.  The stones in the rings are place into the channel, often resting flush up against one another, and held in place by a slight overlap on either edge of the stone.  Channel set eternity rings not only offer a great deal of comfort, they also give the stones in the eternity rings a seamless appearance, as there is no metal used in between each stone.  Channel set rings work best with stones that can truly lay flush with ne another, such as princess or emerald cuts.

Bezel set eternity rings are also another popular choice.  These rings are essentially created by having the diamonds sunk into the precious metal with a small overlap on the top edge of the stones to hold them in place.  Like channel set eternity rings, bezel set eternity rings offer the comfort of a flush surface with the added benefit of the unique look a bezel set stone can present.

Refresher Guide On Diamond Ring Styles

24 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

We’ve reviewed all of the various types and styles of diamond rings in the past, but a quick refresher course never hurt anyone.  Knowing the various styles of diamond rings not only gives you a better sense of the meanings and the traditions behind the various diamond rings, it also gives you a better idea of which styles of diamond rings may suit you best.

The simplest of all diamond rings is the solitaire diamond ring.  Most commonly used for engagement purposes, solitaire diamond rings feature a single diamond set in either a plain metal band or one that is slightly more ornate.  The stones in these types of diamond rings can literally be any size or shape, as the ring itself can be made to accommodate rather easily.

The next choice in diamond rings is the three stone ring.  A step up from solitaire diamond rings, three stone diamond rings feature a centre stone, flanked on either side by two smaller shoulder stones.  This style of ring can be used as an engagement ring, particularly for women looking for a little extra sparkle in their bridal jewellery set, but was intended for use as an anniversary ring.  Designed to represent the past, present, and future of a couple’s relationship, three stone diamond rings are the ideal way to celebrate milestones in a relationship or even use for vow renewals.

For even more dazzling diamond rings, eternity rings may be your jewellery of choice.  These breathtaking diamond rings features sparkling stones wrapped around the entire band of the ring.  Eternity diamond rings are meant to symbolize the unending love between a man and a woman, or the eternal bond between a mother and child.  Because of this, they are ideally used for anniversaries or to commemorate the arrival of a new child.  Some couples also choose to use eternity diamond rings in place of traditional wedding bands.  Eternity style diamond rings can also be used to stand in for both the engagement ring and wedding ring for couples who prefer a less cumbersome and more streamlined set.

Beauty Of Simple Wedding Rings

23 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

While it may be true that non-traditional jewellery, such as eternity rings, are sometimes used in place of wedding rings, the classic beauty and grace a quality pair of wedding rings can offer is still unmatched.  Whether the weddings rings are made from traditional metals, such as gold or platinum, or take advantage of newer alternative metals, such as titanium and tungsten, their simple design offers just enough shine to catch the eye, while not drawing too much attention to the wedding rings themselves.  When selecting wedding rings, there are several variations to consider before making a purchase.

The most obvious choice when buying wedding rings is, of course, what type of precious metal you want the wedding rings to be made from.  White and yellow gold wedding rings are still the most popular, with platinum weddings rings quickly gaining ground.  These precious metals are not only easy to work with for jewellers, they are also the more traditional choices.  In some areas, palladium, a platinum like metal, is also becoming a common choice.  At the moment, the cost of palladium is lower than platinum, offering the consumers to have weddings rings with nearly identical properties as platinum at a much lower cost.  Non traditional metals are also holding firm on the demand scale, with metals such as tungsten and titanium appealing to the masculine consumer given the metals original purpose for industrial uses.

Once you have selected the metal for your wedding rings, the next step to think about is the finish you want the metal to have.  This is not only a unique way to add a personal touch to your weddings rings, it is also rather inexpensive to customise as well.  While high gloss metals are the more traditional choice, there are several other options to consider.  Satin finish wedding rings provide a beautiful matte finish for those who prefer a more understated type of beauty.  Brushed finishes, on the other hand, offer a similar matte finish, with the added touch of delicate brush stokes being left in the finish, offering a more modern edge look overall.

Diamond Eternity Rings Buying Guide

22 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Considering the vast number of diamonds actually set into diamond eternity rings, it is crucial to know all of the tips and tricks to follow when shopping to ensure you are getting the best diamond eternity rings for your money.  While some of these tips may seem straightforward, others may be a bit of a surprise.

As always, when shopping for diamond eternity rings, make sure you are buying from a reputable jeweller.  You simply can’t stress this point enough even though many people fall victim each year to ‘too good to be true’ prices.  Unfortunately, many of these people also find out later on that the diamond eternity rings they purchased are either fakes, stolen merchandise, or are of poor craftsmanship and easily broken.  A reputable dealer will be able to provide a valid appraisal for all diamond eternity rings they sell, ensuring both the quality of the diamond eternity rings, as well as the estimated worth.  They will also typically offer some type of warranty with the diamond eternity rings they sell, guaranteeing the quality and workmanship of the diamond eternity rings.  All of this, of course, seems pretty straightforward.

What you may not think to do is ensure that the appraisal lists the exact grading for each stone within the diamond eternity rings.  A common trick that many less reputable jewellers will play is including the exact gradings of the two or three centre stones in the diamond eternity rings.  What they won’t disclose is the fact that a reputable jeweller will be able to examine the diamond eternity rings and tell that the quality of the diamonds is not consistent throughout the ring.  If you were to remove the stones from the diamond eternity rings and lay them side by side, you may see a drastic difference in colour and clarity when comparing the centre stone to the outermost stone.  The stones in the diamond eternity rings seem consistent when viewed in order, but a trained eye will see that the stones in the diamond eternity rings may decrease in quality slowly as you move outwards from the centre stone.  There are some people that prefer this as a way to cut costs on their diamond eternity rings, but if you’re more concerned with quality, always make sure the stones in the diamond eternity rings are consistent throughout the ring.

Repurposing Diamond Earrings (cont.)

20 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

We’ve already discussed what can be done to re-purpose a pair of old solitaire diamond earrings, but what about the other types you may have lurking around in your jewellery box?  Let’s look at some easy ways to re-purpose those as well.

Cluster diamond earrings can be one of the more challenging types of diamond earrings to re-purpose, but one of the easiest at the same time.  The small stones in cluster diamond earrings offer a wide range of choices when it comes to creating a new piece of jewellery.  The most obvious choice is, of course, using the small stones in the cluster diamond earrings to create a new larger cluster diamond ring.  You could also create a cluster diamond ring and a matching necklace using one of each of the diamond earrings to make each new piece.  The difficulty of re-purposing cluster earrings lies in the fact that it can be a very labour intensive process, often with a lot of added costs being incurred for the time it takes to take each stone form the diamond earrings and work them into a new piece.

Hoop diamond earrings can be either a simple task or a complicated one, all depending on the style of the hoop diamond earrings you have.  If the diamond earrings are done in a pave setting, you will run across similar issues as you would with cluster diamond earrings.  Eternity style diamond earrings, on the other hand, tend to have larger stones to work with, making them much easier to re-purpose.  One of the most popular options you have when it comes to re-purposing eternity diamond earrings is to simply create an eternity ring from the stones in both diamond earrings.

The final style of diamond earrings to consider are chandelier diamond earrings.  Like hoop earrings, chandelier diamond earrings can vary in the degree of difficulty it can take to re-purpose them.  Some chandelier earrings include some smaller accent stones, while also having several larger stones.  Other consist of primarily smaller stones, presenting the same challenges as cluster diamond earrings.  Keep in mind, it is entirely possible to re-purpose any style of diamond earrings, regardless of the size of the stones they contain.  You just need to remember that the smaller the stones are, the more difficult they may be to work with and, therefore, the higher the cost may be for the re-purposing.

Caring For Diamond Eternity Rings

17 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Diamond eternity rings are a brilliant way to showcase just how dazzling and elegant a diamond ring can be. After all, why settle for a single diamond when you can have multiple stones set beautifully in a variety of diamond eternity rings. The one thing to keep in mind, however, is that diamond eternity rings should be considered a sizeable investment, therefore caring for diamond eternity rings should be a top priority.

One of the first steps to take in caring for diamond eternity rings is making sure they fit properly. Diamond eternity rings that are too loose on the finger have a tendency to slip off at the most inconvenient times. Diamond eternity rings that are too tight, on the other hand, have a tendency to cause discomfort during extended wearing. Properly fit diamond eternity rings should fit snug on the finger while also being able to be removed easily with just a slight effort.

Cleaning diamond eternity rings is another key step to take to ensure your diamond eternity rings are always looking their best. Since setting styles for diamond eternity rings can be somewhat unique, such as channel settings or bezel settings, it is crucial to clean diamond eternity rings on a weekly basis at home. Diamond eternity rings should also be cleaned and inspected at least once a year by a professional jeweller. Regular cleanings of diamond eternity rings help prevent buildup on and around the stones which may diminish the overall dazzle of the stones in diamond eternity rings.

Last, but not least, you should be fully prepared should loss or theft of the diamond eternity rings should befall you. Always make sure diamond eternity rings have valid appraisals to accompany them. This not only details the quality of the diamond eternity rings, it also provides a professional estimate of the overall cost of the diamond eternity rings. This information and value of the diamond eternity rings should then be given to the insurance company in order to substantiate any claims. You should also make sure your insurance policy is large enough to cover any diamond eternity rings you may own. If it isn’t, make sure to have a separate clause or coverage added for fine jewellery that will cover the replacement value of any diamond eternity rings lost or stolen. The policy should also provide reimbursement should the diamond eternity rings become damaged in a fire or other catastrophe.

Perfecting Platinum Eternity Rings

13 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

We all know that platinum eternity rings are a beautiful sight to behold, what you may not realize, however, is just how much you can customize platinum eternity rings to better fit your exact style and personality.  With just a few simple modifications to the various details that go into platinum eternity rings, you can have a one of a kind masterpiece to proudly display on your finger.

The easiest way to begin customizing platinum eternity rings is by choosing the diamond size and shapes you are interested in.  Princess or emerald cut stones that are identical in size are the most common choice.  For platinum eternity rings with a little more originality, try adding your own twist.  One stunning way to design platinum eternity rings is with heart shaped stones, each one alternating up and down in direction so they rest as flush as possible next to one another.  This can also be down with pears shaped stones to create an eye catching platinum eternity ring.  Still too ordinary?  Why choose just one shape or size?  If you prefer platinum eternity rings with a modern edge, opt for diamonds that vary in shape, size, or both to create cutting edge platinum eternity rings.

Another easy way to make platinum eternity rings stand out from the crowd is by adding a little colour into the mix.  Many women choose to include their birthstones alongside the diamonds in their platinum eternity rings.  Why stop at just one colour though when there are so many to choose from?  Platinum eternity rings look great with birthstones, or even just stones that happen to be your favourite colours.  In fact, there’s nothing more whimsical than platinum eternity rings that include two or more coloured stones in them.

On the other hand, why pick one from the multitude of platinum eternity rings on the market?  One of the hottest trends right now favours multiple stacked platinum eternity rings.  After all, if diamonds are a girls best friend, the more friends you have the better the party is.  The stacking platinum eternity rings are typically slightly smaller than traditional platinum eternity rings, but they are designed to be comfortable when worn two or three at a time.  Better yet, why stop at just three?   In this case, the thinner the rings are, the more you can wear at one time.

Creative Eternity Ring Gifting

12 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Nearly every woman either dreams of the day she will get proposed to or remembers every detail of the moment she was proposed to.  After she has said I do, there are still plenty of occasions that merit a diamond ring, but none as sentimental as the day she became engaged.  On the other hand, if you’re about to give your special someone an eternity ring for an anniversary or birth of a child, there are several creative ways to gift it so that every time she looks down at the eternity ring on her finger, she remembers exactly when and where you gave it to her.

There’s no reason giving an eternity ring can’t be done just as creatively as you give an engagement ring. Here are a few ideas to help spark your imagination before you decide how to give her an eternity ring.

If your woman loves chocolate, take a trip to a local chocolatier and buy her a box of her favourite assortment.  Take on piece of chocolate out of the centre of the box and replace it with the eternity ring.  She may get her hopes up for another eternity ring every time she sees a box of chocolates, but she will always remember exactly how her first eternity ring was given to her.

If you’re about to celebrate the birth of a child, find a special keepsake for the child, such as a small teddy bear or memorable baby toy, and attach the eternity ring around the bear’s neck or to the toy.  Not only will she appreciate the thought behind the baby gift, she will more than appreciate the eternity ring attached to it.

If she prefers flowers, attach the eternity ring to a card with a bunch of her favourite flowers.  The flowers will catch her eye, the scent will capture her attention, and the eternity ring will take her breath away.  There’s also no reason you can’t give this eternity ring technique a more personal touch and simply attach the eternity ring to a single flower that you present to her yourself.

Regardless of how you decide to present the eternity ring, the important thing is to make it memorable.  Make sure that every time she catches a glimpse of the eternity ring out of the corner of her eye, the special moment comes to mind.

Birthstone Eternity Rings (cont.)

10 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

We’ve already shown you just how stunning birthstone eternity rings can be for those born between January and June, now let’s take a look at the beautiful birthstone eternity rings the rest of the months have in store.

July babies are very lucky to have ruby eternity rings as their birthstone ring, particularly since they work so well in eternity rings.  When set into eternity rings, the red stone, slightly brighter than a garnet, presents a crisp clean colour that makes them simply divine.  When set into eternity rings amongst dazzling diamonds, their overall beauty is simply magnified.

August babies have one of the most unusual birthstones of all with the peridot, another beautiful addition to eternity rings.  Almost a cross between an emerald and an aquamarine, the peridot is a beautiful light green colour with a hint of yellow.  When set into eternity rings alongside diamonds, the present the same subtle contrast that the aquamarine does, with just a slightly more noticeable colour gap between the two stones.

September children can proudly wear their stunning sapphire eternity rings with pride.  The royal blue stone, like rubies and emeralds, is quite common amongst crown jewel collections and carries with it a sense of royalty.  When set next to the crystal clear diamonds in eternity rings, the deep blue colour of the sapphire provides a stunning contrast.

October babies also have a rather unique birthstone in the opal.  With its beautiful luminescence and hints of silver, gold, blue, and pink tones, opal eternity rings truly do have a very multi-faceted nature.  Unlike the pearl, which can be somewhat flat tones in nature, opals set besides diamonds in eternity rings simply play off each other in a magnificent sparkle and shine.

November babies truly have birthstone eternity rings that represents the colours of fall with the citrine, a yellowish orange stone with a unique colour and appearance.  Being one of the very few orange gemstones in the world, the citrine is, in fact, one of the most unique of all the birthstones, making citrine eternity rings a beauty to behold.

Finally, December babies have much more than just Christmas to celebrate as they take pride in the rare tanzanite stone.  The most versatile of all eternity rings, tanzanite eternity rings can appear as a variety of colours, from burgundy to purple to green to pink.  The beauty of the colour changing stone makes it a dazzling choice for eternity rings.

The Do It Yourself Eternity Ring

07 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Most people know that one of the hot trends right now is designing your own engagement ring.  What they may not realize is that you can create your own custom eternity ring just as easily.  From the diamonds to the setting they’re nestled in, designing a custom eternity ring can be easy as 1….2….3….

One of the first choices that needs to be made when creating your diamond eternity ring is which metal you want to have the eternity ring set in.  While gold and platinum both make excellent choices for a silver toned eternity ring, while yellow gold is also well suited for a more traditional eternity ring.

Once you have selected the metal for the eternity ring, the next step is to decide what types of diamonds you want to be set into the eternity ring.  The most traditional shapes used are princess cut and emerald cut stones.  These shapes are preferred in an eternity ring because of their ability to rest flush up against one another.  For an eternity ring with a slight twist, you can also choose various stones of alternating shapes.

With the metal and the cut of stone in place, the next step will be to select the best overall design for the eternity ring.  This is where you would decode of you wanted channel set diamonds, where the stones are set in between two sections of gold to give the external edges of the eternity ring a smoother finish, bezel set stones which allow you to have the shape of the ring conform to the shapes of the stones in the eternity ring, or even a tension set design, using the natural pressure created when the band of the eternity ring is partially split to keep the diamonds securely held in the eternity ring.

The final choice deals with the specific stones you wish to buy for your new eternity ring.  Since you already have the shape nailed down, the next step would be to choose from an inventory list of all the available carat weights, diamond colours, and various clarity and cut ratings.  Since there are several stones needed for the eternity ring, the selection may be slightly more limited than it would be if shopping for a solitaire ring.

Birthstone Eternity Rings

06 August 2010 | Purely Diamonds

One of the primary reasons women are given eternity rings is because they have recently given birth or adopted a child.  While diamond eternity rings are the standard fare for anniversaries, eternity rings to celebrate a new child are typically created with diamonds as well as the child’s birthstone.  This not only adds colour to the ring, it also makes each ring more unique to the child it represents.

January babies have the luxury of garnets in their eternity rings.  This deep red stone symbolizes loyalty, sincerity, and devotion.  The beautiful burgundy stone works well together with diamonds and is suitable for either a yellow gold, white gold, or platinum setting.

February babies are blessed with amethyst eternity rings.  Long cherished for their rich purple colour, amethysts represent protection, peace, and tranquillity.  Like garnet and diamond eternity rings, amethyst and diamond eternity rings also work well in any colour setting.

March babies are blessed with the dazzling aquamarine in their eternity rings.  With its beautiful sea foam hues of green an d blue, aquamarine stands for hope, health, and youth.  Aquamarine and diamond eternity rings tend to look their best with white gold or platinum settings, particularly given the lighter colour of the aquamarine itself.

April babies are definitely the easiest to buy eternity rings for as their birthstone is the diamond itself.  Representing fearlessness and invincibility, diamond eternity rings are the gold (or platinum) standard and can be found in the widest selection of eternity rings available.

May children have the emerald as their gemstone, with its beautiful forest green tones and rich colour.  While emeralds are beautiful as ever in white gold or platinum, yellow gold eternity rings are the metal of choice for this dazzling gemstone, representing faithfulness and unchanging love.

June babies should rejoice in the fact that they have two standard birthstones to use in their eternity rings, pearls and alexandrites.  The milky white pearl, when placed amongst diamonds, creates a beautiful contrast in eternity rings and is often favoured in yellow gold eternity rings above white gold or platinum eternity rings.  Alexandrites, on the other hand, work better with white gold or platinum eternity rings, particularly with their distinct colour changing abilities which give the stone anywhere from a deep purple to a bright pink colour depending on the light the eternity rings are placed under.

Stay tuned for your guide to the second half of the year…..coming soon……

While the concept of white gold wedding rings may seem very simple in nature, there are several variations you can incorporate into your rings t make them more unique and customized to your personality and preferences.

One of the easiest ways to make your white gold wedding rings pop is by focusing on the details that go into them.  If you are a nature lover, choose a white gold wedding ring etched with tiny flowers or leaves.  For a more modern appeal, opt for geometric patterns or designs incorporated into the surface of the band.  If romance is more your style, nothing says I love you more than a white gold wedding ring etched with your favourite line of poetry.  You can also choose a special quote or saying that the two of you share to have scribed on the inside or outside of the white gold wedding rings.

While the white gold wedding ring should never try to draw too much attention away form the engagement ring itself, there’s no reason it can’t have a little sparkle of it’s own.  One of the hot trends is having tiny diamonds or other coloured gemstones inlaid into the white gold wedding rings.  These typically range anywhere from three to five small accent stones in each band, just enough to give them that hint of sparkle to catch the eye.

If you want a little more sparkle, perhaps not enough to overshadow the engagement ring but enough to still blend the two together, opt for an eternity style white gold wedding ring.  While the eternity ring design was once reserved for anniversaries of childbirth, they are becoming more and more popular when used in place of traditional white gold wedding rings.  The key to using this design is ensuring the engagement ring itself has enough dazzle and brilliance of it’s own to still remain the central focus.

Overall, there are numerous ways to ensure your white gold wedding rings are as one of a kind as possible.  By using various etching techniques and patterns, adding a hint of sparkle, or opting for all out dazzle, you can make sure to turn heads and get people talking whenever they see your stunning white gold wedding rings.

Unique Eternity Ring Designs

30 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Everyone is familiar with the standard eternity ring design.  They typically features princess cut stones, set in either yellow gold, white gold, or platinum, which span the entire band or simply cover half of the ring.  The most common setting used for eternity rings is the channel setting, allowing the diamonds to rest flush within the ring itself, eliminating the chances of snagging.  There are, however, several more interesting designs on the market that can help you ensure your next eternity ring stands out from the crowd.

One of the most affordable ways to make your eternity ring unique is to opt for sparse set diamonds.  This type of eternity ring features bezel set stones that are inlaid into the band at set intervals, offering the sparkle and shine of an eternity ring, with a much lower price point.

Another trend that seems to be all the rage right now is moulded eternity rings.  While channel set rings are completely smooth on either side, moulded rings are fitted to the outlines of the individual stones.  An eternity ring featuring round stones, for example, would have a wave like appearance on either side.  Another popular choice is princess cut stones turned diagonally, creating an angled pattern where the metal wraps the outer edges of the diamonds.

For another twist on the classic eternity ring design, many people are opting for baguette diamonds in a channel setting rather than square stones.  The elongated rectangle shape of the baguettes offer a beautiful variation on the traditional design.

For a more charming twist, you can always opt for more than one cut of diamond.  A growing trend in eternity rings features round and square stones alternating in the band.  While it may seem unconventional at first, the whimsical nature of the design is definitely keeping it on the must have list.

While many eternity ring variations focus on the stones within the rings, others earn more towards the bands themselves.  For an added sparkle, choose a band that is etched or embossed on either side of the stones, often giving the appearance of much larger stones from a distance even though it is simply a design added to the band itself.

Choosing The Right Diamond Ring

29 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

If you are in the process of shopping for diamond rings, it is essential that you familiarize yourself with the general styles of rings on the market. Since there have been so many recommended occasions tied to certain types of diamond rings, it helps to know if you are buying the correct ring for the correct milestone.

The most basic diamond ring of them all is the diamond solitaire. Consisting of a single stone in a precious metal setting, the solitaire ring was long considered the standard for engagement ring purposes. Over the years, however, styles of acceptable engagement rings have broadened, creating a much larger design pool to choose from. The solitaire ring, while not the only style of engagement ring, still remains highly symbolic with regards to marriage proposals.

A diamond eternity ring is designed for two primary purposes. They are intended to be used as gifts to celebrate a wedding anniversary, sometimes replacing the wedding band itself, or they can be given to commemorate the birth of a couple’s first child, sometimes including the child’s birthstone as well as diamonds. Both the full eternity rings and the half eternity rings can be used to represent these two milestones in a relationship.

The three stone ring, like the eternity ring, is also used as an anniversary gift. The stones are symbolic of the couple’s past, present, and future. While some brides to be are choosing a three stone ring in place of an engagement ring, they are typically reserved for anniversary purposes.

The right hand ring, or dress diamond ring, was intended to be marketed towards single women who didn’t feel the need to be in a relationship in order to be able to wear a diamond ring. Because there is no specific style associated with the right hand ring, any of the above designs can be used to represent a woman’s independence.

While there are several other styles and types of diamond rings on the market, these are the primary categories. Keep in mind, however, that just because a ring is traditionally used for one purpose that doesn’t mean you can’t choose your own tradition to create.

White Gold Wedding Rings Get The Disney Touch As Well

29 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Disney princess are not only lending their inspiration to the engagement ring market, they are also inspiring their own line of coordinating white gold wedding rings to pair up with their royal engagement ring counterparts.

The Snow White band features multiple round cut diamonds set into a moulded white gold wedding ring.  The way the metal conforms to the shapes of each round stone helps to create the perfect white gold wedding band to represent one of the most famous princesses in Disney history.

The white gold wedding ring dedicated to the beautiful Sleeping Beauty is a royal beauty indeed.  Featuring a band fully set with delicate princess cut diamonds.  To further add to the beauty of this white gold wedding ring, the portion of the band surrounding the stones in their eternity ring design is cast with a unique embossing, adding even more sparkle and shine.

Everyone’s beloved princess, Belle, nicknamed aptly as Beauty for her stunning visage, has a white gold wedding ring dedicated to her that truly does envision the concept of beauty itself.   The white gold wedding ring itself is created in yet another eternity ring design, this time featuring a series of small round diamonds set around the circumference of the band.  To add a touch of uniqueness, the metal holding each stone in place is slightly cut into, allowing a tremendous amount of light to pass through, as well as under, the stunning diamonds.

The Cinderella white gold wedding ring possesses the same intense dazzle as the Sleeping Beauty band.  This ring, however, features round cut diamonds in place of the square princess cuts that are in the Sleeping Beauty band.  This white gold wedding band, however, features the same beautiful band embossing that helps set both of these eternity ring styled white gold engagement rings apart from the rest of the pack.

The Ariel white gold wedding ring focuses on the beauty of the baguette cut.  Set in a simple yet elegant channel set design, this white gold wedding ring truly gives the appearance of something so beautiful you may only be able to find it under the sea.

Last, but definitely not least, the Jasmine white gold wedding ring opts for detail rather than stone quantity.  This band uses sparsely set princess cut stones mounted diagonally into the band, along with delicate scroll accents to show the world just how amazing slightly understated designs can be at times.

Disney Princess White Gold Engagement Rings

29 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Every little girl, at some point in time or another, dreams of the handsome Prince who will come and sweep her off her feet and carry her away to his massive castle where her true fairytale wedding awaits.  Disney has come to the rescue, however, with their new line of white gold engagement rings based on each of their five most popular princesses.

The Cinderella white gold engagement ring features a stunning princess cut stone in the centre, flanked by two smaller stones on either sides.  All of the stones are surrounded by numerous smaller diamonds and mounted in an eternity ring design.

The next white gold engagement ring in the collection is dedicated to Sleeping Beauty.  It features the same elegant centre princess cut stone, this time haloed with a bevy of diamonds in a unique geometric shape.  The setting potion of the band is rich with luxurious inlay cuts and the ring portion is fashioned in the eternity ring design as well.

One of the most dazzling in the collection, the Snow White white gold engagement ring features three beautiful round cut stones which serve as the focal point for the design.  While seven diamonds may have seemed appropriate for this particular design, the white gold engagement ring instead features a band set entirely with smaller round diamonds.  The metal in the band itself is moulded around each stone, creating a unique bubble effect for this unique white gold engagement ring.

Similar in the basic design, the Belle white gold wedding ring is created in a three stone design, beautifully set with one large round diamond, shouldered on each side by two slightly smaller round stones.

The Jasmine ring is, by far, the most unique of all the five designs.  This dazzling white gold engagement ring features three princess cut stones, each set diagonally to create a unique angled design.  Each stone, of course, is surrounded on all sides by smaller diamond accents.

Lastly, the Ariel ring features a design as unusual and intricate as the character it was based on.  This white gold engagement ring combines round stones, baguettes, and unusual bezel setting and inlay cuts to create a dazzling masterpiece.

How To Select The Perfect Diamond Ring-Size Matters

28 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

If you are on the market for a diamond ring for your beloved, regardless of whether it is an engagement ring, an eternity ring, or just an ‘I Love You’ ring, there are several tricks to keep in mind when selecting the perfect piece of jewellery.

One of the trickiest parts for some people is figuring out what size ring to buy. If you have been married for years, this may be an easy task. For new couples, however, the deed gets slightly trickier. Your best bet is to take her jewellery shopping, not necessarily for a diamond ring though. Tell her you want to get her a birthstone ring or some other similar piece of jewellery for an upcoming birthday, holiday, or special occasion. Take her to the jewellery store under the guide of wanting to see what styles of rings or choices of gemstones she likes best. As she tries on gemstone rings from the case, you will be able to determine what size ring she wears. Even is she isn’t trying jewellery on the right finger, a well trained jeweller will be able to determine the correct size depending on where you plan the diamond ring to be worn.

Another option is to ask her family or friends. While her brother-in-law may not know her ring size off the top of his head, there’s a good chance her sister or best friend may know. Even if they don’t, I’m sure they can find a reason to conveniently borrow one of her rings for a day in order to determine what size she wears.

The final choice is to do the deed yourself. If you have access to her jewellery box, and aren’t at risk for being caught ‘borrowing’ any of her jewellery, it should be easy enough for you to get one of her favorite rings to determine what size it is. Make sure to choose a ring that you know she wears on a semi-regular basis. It won’t do much good to have a ring sized that she wore as a teenager that only fits on her pinky now.

Even if all of these methods fails, take heart in the fact that any precious metal ring can be sized to fit perfectly at your local jewellery shop, usually in a matter of hours.

White Gold Wedding Rings For Any Budget

27 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Everyone knows that white gold wedding rings are a hot commodity these days.  What many people may not necessarily know s that there are several ways to get the white gold wedding ring of your dreams at a much lower cost than what you might anticipate.

One of the first things to do before shopping for white gold wedding rings is to narrow down the style or styles you are interested in.  Once you have your design in mind, it makes the shopping process much easier and helps determine which budgeting tricks will work best for you.

If you are looking for a white gold wedding ring in an eternity design, one of the key points to keep in mind is stone sizes.  For example, a single white gold wedding ring in an eternity design with 1/2 carat stones could cost a significant amount of money.   If you keep in mind that smaller sized stones are much cheaper on a price per carat basis, you will discover that it could potentially be much more affordable to opt for a white gold wedding ring set with 1/4 carat stones.  In fact, you could probably spend the same amount of money as you would on the 1/2 carat version and purchase multiple stacking eternity styled white gold wedding rings instead.

When going for a three stone white gold wedding ring, size can matter just as much.  Remember, the emphasis in a three stone white gold wedding ring should be on the centre stone.  While it may be nice to have larger side stones, smaller ones tend to work just as well.  If nothing else, you can use the money you’re saving by opting for smaller side stones to increase the overall size of the centre stone.

When it comes to white gold wedding rings in a solitaire design, cut tends to play a very important role.  Round and oval cut diamonds use approximately half of the rough diamond they are cut from, with the waste typically being use for industrial applications.  Emerald and princess cut, on the other hand, can utilize over 80% of the rough diamond, making the much more affordable and easier to cut.

Affordable Eternity Rings

27 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

If you’re on the market for a new eternity ring and want some quick tips and tricks to help make your new purchase more affordable, you’ve come to the right place.  When most people think of eternity rings, they immediately associate them with high costs, primarily due to the quantity of diamonds that are in the eternity rings themselves.  An eternity ring, however, does not necessarily have to be as costly as most people think and here’s why.

One of the easiest tips to cutting the price on an eternity ring is to opt for a half eternity ring as opposed to a full one.  While the concept of a full eternity ring may be appealing, no one is ever really going to see the diamonds mounted on the underside of the ring, making them an extravagance more than a requirement.  Cut the number of diamonds in half you you instantly knock quite a hefty amount off the selling price.

You also need to choose your precious metal wisely.  While platinum is more valuable than white gold, it also has the price tag to match.  By going with a white gold eternity ring, instead of a platinum one, you can save even more money in the long run.  On the plus side, the majority of people can’t tell the differences between platinum and white gold from a distance any way.

If you prefer yellow gold, then you’re in luck.  First of all, try to stick with 14kt gold instead of 18kt gold.  Like platinum, the 18kt gold is more valuable, however, the 14kt gold is more affordable and more durable.  Another benefit of yellow gold relates to the quality of the diamonds being set into the eternity ring itself.  White white metals tend to work best with stones as colourless as possible, yellow gold gives you a little more leeway.  In fact, many consumers prefer diamonds with a hint of yellow in them for their yellow gold eternity rings.  The tint of the stones is said to give a much warmer and natural feel to the jewellery, as well as accent skin tones much better as well.

Best Emerald Cut Ring Designs

25 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

When purchasing a new diamond ring, it is best to decide on either which cut of stone you want or which type of design you are looking for.  Since these factors aren’t always exactly interchangeable, selecting your preference in one may help narrow down your choices in the other, making the purchase process much simpler.  If you are on the market for an emerald cut ring, for example, there are certain ring types that are more suited to the stone shape than others and should be considered first.

One of the most popular settings for an emerald cut ring is a solitaire design.  One of the noted qualities of emerald cut rings is their ability to cater to nearly any size stone, particularly those with carat weights in the double digits.  A solitaire setting is also ideal because it often allows the stone to be slightly raised above the band of the ring, increasing the amount of light passing through the stone and increasing it’s overall brilliance.  Emerald cut rings also work well with solitaire settings because of the fact that the emerald cut itself works extremely well as a stand alone stone.  It offers an air of elegance and is frequently associated with royalty, due primarily to the larger number of emerald cut rings in crown jewel collections around the globe.

Emerald cut rings are also well suited to three stone ring designs.  One of the key qualities that makes  a three stone ring so beautiful is the inclusion of various shaped stones that are able to lie flush up against one another, primarily emerald and princess cuts.  The seamless points where the centre stone and side stones meet create a stunning visual appearance.  Having the stones side by side in an emerald cut ring also allows the stones to reflect and refract light off one another, further adding to the diamonds’ fire and sparkle.

The final setting type best suited for emerald cut rings is the eternity ring design.  Relying heavily on the same principles as the three stone ring with regards to the benefits of a flush setting, an emerald cut eternity ring is one of the most beautiful examples you can find of the maximum potential of the emerald cut itself.  While the three stone emerald cut ring design offers a beautiful symmetry between the stones, an eternity ring uses identical sized stones completely around the band to create an unending row of diamonds.  Since there are no seams between each stone set into the eternity design emerald cut ring, it gives the appearance of one solid curving diamonds stretching the entire circumference of the band

Benefits Of A Solitaire Engagement Ring

23 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

While the appearance of the solitaire engagement ring might be the most common style people are familiar with, there are a wealth of other designs currently on the market that are becoming increasingly popular for engagement rings as well.  These include cluster rings, three stone rings, and even eternity rings.  There are, however, several reasons why selecting a solitaire engagement ring may still be your best bet.

The solitaire engagement ring is timeless in it’s appearance.  It is the most traditional design, and will most likely remain so for a long time to come.  The design itself is simple enough to match with any personality, any time period, or any budget.  A solitaire engagement ring has a classic look that never becomes outdated or goes out of style.  While the other designs available may seem trendy now, not all of them will be able to weather the test of time like the solitaire engagement ring has done.

The second benefit of choosing a solitaire engagement ring is their versatility.  While it may seem like you have more design options going with a more complex ring design, keep in mind that the solitaire engagement ring offers the ability to use any size of stone, in any shape, with any precious metal.  Eternity rings and three stone diamond rings, for example, are often restricted to princess or emerald cut diamonds.   Cluster rings are typically designed to hold smaller centre stones.  Solitaire engagement rings, on the other hand, are literally unlimited in the diamond options it will work with, making it the most versatile of all engagement ring designs.  Even though you’re setting options may seem limited, a solitaire engagement ring is also able to accommodate a range of options, including tension settings, bezel settings, and more.

A solitaire engagement ring can also be one of the most affordable options when it comes to bridal jewellery.  Since the stone size a solitaire engagement ring can hold is completely variable, allowing small stones to work just as well as larger ones.  Solitaire engagement rings also tend to use a significantly lower amount of precious metals, further reducing the overall cost of this style of ring.  The cost is also eliminated for accent stones and other accentuations that are typically found in other engagement ring styles.

History Of Eternity Rings

23 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

While many people believe that eternity rings are a fairly modern concept, they can actually be traced as far back in history as 2000 B.C.  The early Egyptians, in fact, are thought to be the first civilised peoples to use the eternity ring design.  Granted, their eternity rings were not platinum and set with diamonds, but they were very beautiful in their appearance none the less.  Early examples of eternity rings from this time reveal bands of various metals set with an array of gemstones across the top half of the ring.  At the time, diamonds weren’t very popular as the Egyptians preferred the rich colours of emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and other semi-precious gems.  For an added touch, the band itself was also designed to resemble a serpent consuming it’s own tail, a common Egyptian visual representation of eternity.

In later years, diamonds did become increasingly popular, valued for their rarity and beauty, despite their lack of colour.  They quickly became the gem of choice for eternity rings and have remained so ever since.  The standard metals for eternity rings are currently yellow gold, white gold, and platinum.  Some eternity rings also feature a combination of both white and yellow gold, providing a beautiful contrast to one another.

Eventually, the meaning behind the eternity ring became more globally accepted as well.  The primary role of an eternity ring is to act as a symbol for the unending love one half of a couple has for the other.  It is a common, almost mandatory, anniversary gift.  While eternity rings were once received for 50th and 60th anniversaries only, they are now a common 1st year anniversary gift.

The secondary use for an eternity ring was to celebrate the birth or adoption of a child.  Again, the ring symbolized eternal love, only this time is was between a mother and her child.  These eternity rings sometimes featured accent stones along with the diamonds, representation the child’s birthstone, the mother’s birthstone, or a combination of both.

So while the component materials of the eternity ring may have changed over the years, the basic design and symbolism behind the ring have remained constant throughout time.

Eternity Rings – The History and Traditions

20 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

An eternity ring is designed to be a symbol or token of everlasting love as well as the ‘eternity’ a husband and wife plan to share together. Traditionally presented after a couple has already been married, they can be given as a gift to commemorate and anniversary or to celebrate the birth of the first child.

History of The Eternity Ring

The concept of an eternity ring dates back approximately 4,000 years to Egyptian times. While the Egyptians didn’t necessarily use the rings to commemorate a specific occasion, they were said to have used them simply as a token eternal love and life. Early examples found were simply a circle of metal, precious or otherwise, set with stones either on the top half of the ring or running the entire circumference of the ring. Some early examples of eternity rings were also designed to mimic the image of a snake devouring its own tail, a common symbol used to represent eternity.

Modern Traditions

Unlike the early intentions of eternity rings, today they are usually given to specifically mark a particular anniversary. The concept of giving an eternity ring to celebrate a milestone in a marriage signifies not only the time you have already spent together, but the unending future you plan to share with your spouse. Another meaning of the ring is used to represent the eternal circle of life. Because of this, an eternity ring is often given to a wife by her husband after their first child is born. Many wedding bands are being created with stones set into them. These do not, however, carry the same significance as an eternity ring presented after a marriage or childbirth.

What Anniversary Should They Celebrate

If you follow the traditional list of proper anniversary gifts, as outdated as it may seem, gemstones were not meant to be given until the fortieth anniversary and, even then, it was only supposed to be rubies, not diamonds, the traditional stone in an eternity ring. So, for couples who insist on sticking to tradition, the diamond eternity would would be appropriate for your sixtieth anniversary, when diamonds were considered an appropriate gift. On a side not, good luck getting your wife to stick around for 60 years after you’ve given her a piece of wood for your fifth anniversary followed by a piece of tin or aluminum to commemorate ten years of marriage.

For those couples who prefer to follow the more modern list of recommended anniversary gifts, a diamond can be given on the tenth anniversary and would signify the appropriate time to present your wife with a traditional diamond set eternity ring. However, if you prefer to follow the advice given by DeBeer’s, the current jeweler corporation who also happens to be the controller of almost 80% of the world’s diamond supply, a diamond eternity ring is perfectly suited to celebrate a one year anniversary together.

Regardless of which tradition you choose to follow, the presenting of an eternity ring to signify a wedding anniversary should be your personal choice and not driven by any preset list of proper gifts or creative corporate marketing campaign.

The Circle of Life

Only in recent years did the original symbolism of the eternity ring as a representation of the circle of life resurface. Because of this, the welcoming of a couple’s first child into the world became another tradition in which the gift of an eternity ring was deemed appropriate. With adoption as popular as it is today, especially for couples who cannot have children of their own, the gift of an eternity ring is just as appropriate as well.

In essence, the ring can either be used to celebrate the time you have spent together in marriage or the time at which your life as a family truly began. Either way, an eternity ring can be just as meaningful as an engagement ring and just as momentous as a wedding band. This is also the reason why so many people choose to wear all three rings together, whether on the same finger or split between both ring fingers.

The Impact Of Diamond Rings On Bridal Jewellery (Anniversaries & Milestones)

20 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Aside from their influence on engagement rings and wedding bands, diamond rings are also a common representation of wedding anniversaries and other marital or relationship milestones a couple can share together.
Eternity Rings

While the concept of diamond eternity ringsmay not be a new one, their emergence as an integral part of bridal jewellery seems to be fairly recent. The eternity ring itself was designed to represent eternal love and was often given as an anniversary gift or to celebrate the birth of the couple’s first child. Still biding by tradition, the eternity ring is a common anniversary present. Similar to diamond ring enhancers, when an eternity ring is given as an anniversary present, some women choose to wear their eternity ring in place of their wedding band. It is perfectly acceptable, however, to wear your engagement ring, wedding band, and eternity ring together.

When given to celebrate a milestone, such as the birth of the couple’s first child, the diamond eternity ring can also be set with a combination of diamonds and both the mother’s and the child’s birthstone gem. In families with multiple children, a diamond eternity ring can be custom made that includes the mother’s birthstone as well as those of each child.

The Three Stone Diamond Ring

What better way to celebrate your love for your spouse than with a diamond ring symbolizing the past that brought your together, the present that it has led you to, and the future you look forward to sharing together. Of course, when it comes to jewellery, is there any better way to symbolize love than with a diamond? The three stone diamond ring has been a solid trend for some time now. While most three stone engagement rings that contain shoulder stones have a large centre stone and two significantly smaller side stones, the side stones on a three stone rings are only slightly smaller than the centre stone. Three stone diamond rings are typically given as a token of love to celebrate a wedding anniversary. There are some couples, however, who choose a three stone ring to either use as an engagement ring, or to serve as both their engagement ring and wedding band. This is often preferred by women who prefer to only wear a single ring, as opposed to a two or three piece set.

Diamond rings, in their various forms, have not only impacted bridal jewellery tremendously over the years, they have become an integral part of nearly every form of bridal and anniversary jewellery on the market.

Maximizing The Beauty Of Eternity Rings With Platinum

20 July 2010 | Purely Diamonds

One of the biggest choices to make when it comes to selecting a new eternity ring is which precious metal to have the band cast from. While yellow gold eternity rings are available, white metal are, by far, the more popular colour choices. These may include white gold, palladium, or platinum. For many reasons, platinum seems to be the metal of choice for the largest percentage of consumers.

Purity

An eternity ring is designed to symbolize the unending love between either a husband and wife or a mother and child. In order to better honour this symbolism, many consumers feel that the materials being used to create the ring should, therefore, be as pure as possible. White gold rings, for example, generally consists of about 75% gold. Platinum eternity rings, on the other hand, weigh in at between 90 and 95% pure platinum, giving them the edge when it comes to the purity factor.

Finish

Platinum eternity rings will, over time, maintain their white lustre finish flawlessly with proper care. White gold, on the other hand, will gradually lose its finish over time, eventually taking on a somewhat yellowed appearance. This is due to the fact that the white finish that the gold possesses comes partially from a coating that is placed over the metal to enhance its colour. Platinum, on the other hand, is naturally white and will not change shades over time.

Rarity

One of the biggest reasons platinum eternity rings are so highly prized is because of the rarity of the platinum itself. While the price tag for a platinum ring may be higher than that of a white gold piece, it is driven by the fact that platinum is over 30 times rarer than white gold, currently found in only two sources in the world. In fact, it take nearly 10 tons or raw platinum ore to create one ounce of refined platinum metal. The intensive labour process that goes into refining the metal to create platinum eternity rings makes them even more valuable.

Quality

Platinum eternity rings are not only stronger than white gold rings, they are also more scratch and wear resistant. Gold rings, in fact, will wear down gradually over time, slowly decreasing the overall weight of the metal over the years. Platinum, on the other hand, does not wear down, meaning your eternity ring will bear the same metal weigh twenty years form now as it does today.

Eternity Ring

Eternity Ring

If you’ve been shopping for an eternity ring lately, you may notice that they seem to be getting smaller. More and more, the overall width of many eternity rings on the market is slowly slimming down. This has nothing to do with decreased consumer demand, however, and everything to do with the growing trend of stacking the rings. After all, why have just one eternity ring when you can have two, or three, or four?

While the tradition seems to have been born out of necessity, it continues to grow out of personal preference. One of the primary occasions the eternity ring was designed to commemorate was an anniversary. Upon being presented with this gift, the bride had the choice to either use the ring in place of her original wedding band, or add the ring as the third piece to her bridal set. Over the years, eternity rings also became quite commonly found being used in place of a traditional wedding band, or even used as a single ring to represent both the engagement ring and the wedding ring. In cases such as these, if a second eternity band was given on an anniversary, it was designed to be stacked with the original ring.

Also commonly given to commemorate the birth of a child, the eternity ring often bore not only diamonds, but the birthstones of the baby, and sometimes even the mother as well. To celebrate the joyous arrival of any additional children the couple may have, stones were typically replaced in the ring to allow the inclusion of the additional birthstones. In order to simplify the process, however, additional eternity rings were often given, one to symbolize each child.

As more and more traditions formed that involved the wearing of multiple stacked eternity rings, jewelry designers began to take notice of the trend and modify the designs of the ring just slightly enough to make them more accommodating to the new trends. Little by little, the rings narrowed slightly in size, reducing the bulk that could result from stacking rings that were too wide. They also began to incorporate smoother outside edges and settings, allowing the rings to stack flush against one another.

One of the best features about stacking eternity rings is the ability it gives the wearer to create a variety of looks, often using various colors of precious metals, colored gemstones, and stone shapes to create one of a kind looks that can be changed up in a second simply by changing the order in which the rings are stacked.

Choosing The Best Diamond Eternity Ring

Choosing The Best Diamond Eternity Ring

If you are on the market for a diamond eternity ring, but want one that will stand out from the rest of the crowd and get noticed, there are a few simple features to look for before making your next purchase.

The color of the stones in diamond eternity rings can play a major part in how well they get noticed. Colored diamonds, for example, are extremely popular at the moment. These stunning diamond variations can be found in deep blue tones, fiery reds, and even rich blacks. For a more budget friendly alternative, as colored diamonds can be fairly costly, colored gemstones can provide the same effect. It is quite common, in fact, to work the birthstones of both the child and the mother into diamond eternity rings when they are being gifted to commemorate the birth of a child. Even for weddings and anniversaries, however, a touch of color interspersed between the clear sparkling diamonds adds a whole new level of elegance to a diamond eternity ring that is unmatched.

Many designers will carefully select the various shapes of the stones used in their diamond eternity rings in order to create more unique visual statements. While traditional rings tend to feature symmetrical emerald cut stones set flush around the band, there are several more creative options available. Alternating stone shapes in diamond eternity rings has become very popular, often pairing both square and round shapes together for a distinct design. Other novelty shapes can be used as well. Heart shaped stones, for example, can be set into diamond eternity rings side by side, each alternating stone facing either up or down to allow the stones to better fit into the ring. While the symmetrical nature of the eternity ring may be appealing to many consumers, others prefer the more whimsical nature of a slightly non-traditional setting or stone pairing.

For the easiest way to get your diamond eternity ring noticed, try opting for one of the hottest settings on the market right now. Invisible set stones are not only cornering the market in regular diamond rings, they are also growing extremely popular for eternity ring designs. The invisible setting not only gives the diamonds within the ring a true flush appearance, elegantly blending the lines where one gem stops and the next starts, they also add even further emphasis onto the beauty of the stones within the ring, as opposed to the precious metal surrounding them.

Eternity Rings Quickly Replacing Wedding Bands

Eternity Rings Quickly Replacing Wedding Bands

The eternity ring has been in existence in one way, shape, or form since the early days of civilization. Relics have been found made from various materials, such as bone, ceramic, stone, and other non conventional jewelry items. Today, however, diamonds and precious metal are the combination of choice. Marketed several years ago by one of the major players in the diamond industry as the accepted gift to commemorate an anniversary or the birth of a child, the eternity ring has become standard fare for these occasions. In more recent times, however, couples everywhere are creating their own traditions and using eternity rings in place of their traditional wedding bands.

Eternity rings can be found in two styles, half rings and full rings. The full eternity rings, by nature, are the more costly of the two since the diamonds extend the entire length of the band. The stones, however, in full eternity rings are often smaller, making the rings slightly thinner and, therefore, more comfortable to wear on a regular basis. Half eternity rings, on the other hand, tend to carry larger stones since the sides of the ring are made solely from precious metal and not set with diamonds. Because of this design, the thickness of the ring is less of an issue.

In an effort to add a bit more sparkle and shine to their bridal jewelry sets, many brides to be are opting for eternity rings as part of their bridal set in place of a plainer wedding band. More and more bridal sets with eternity style rings as the wedding band are showing up on the market as well, reinforcing this newer combination trend. In order to provide more cohesion between the groom’s wedding band and the bride’s, the mens rings are typically set with some type of small diamond accent. This provides a more unified look among the set without overpowering the masculine ring with too much of a feminine appearance. Most of these bridal sets are also designed to have a second eternity ring stacked on top of the set that matches the one being used for the wedding band. This allows the original tradition of the ring as an anniversary gift or childbirth to remain in practice.

Eternity Rings Standing In For Diamond Engagement Rings

Eternity Rings Standing In For Diamond Engagement Rings

One of the biggest issues many men have is selecting the right engagement ring to place on their bride to be’s finger when they ask the all important question. While they may almost everything there is to know about her, it’s still tough to determine which diamond engagement ring she would be happiest wearing on her finger day in and day out for the rest of her days. In order to work around this dilemma, many men are becoming slightly more creative with their jewelry buying tactics.

While tradition has determined that the man should buy the woman a diamond engagement ring first, followed by a wedding ring to present at the ceremony, some are beginning to reverse the order of the steps. Diamond eternity rings have grown tremendously in popularity over the years as stand ins for wedding bands. Brides seem to prefer the added sparkle an eternity ring gives the engagement ring when they are worn together. Since diamond eternity rings are much simpler to pick out than engagement rings, these are gradually becoming the first item purchased.

The eternity ring is presented at the time of the marriage proposal in place of the engagement ring. Once your beloved has accepted your proposal, you have the opportunity to shop for her ‘engagement’ ring together. This allows her to have full input on the ring’s design, including the stone shape and setting. The only requirement for the second ring being purchased would be that it would have to be compatible with the eternity ring. Since eternity rings are frequently used as wedding bands, more and more engagement rings are being designed specifically for use with an eternity ring, as opposed to a standard plain wedding band.

There are several benefits to changing the order around of the ring purchasing. Buying a diamond eternity ring for proposal purposes gives you the chance to offer your potential fiance the accepted gift of diamond jewelry when you propose. It also guarantees that the ring she will eventually choose to pair with the ring in order to complete her bridal jewelry set will be the one that best suits her personal tastes.

Eternity Rings – What To Do To Commemorate Your Second Child

08 June 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Eternity Rings – What To Do To Commemorate Your Second Child

One of the two most common occasions on which an eternity ring is given is to commemorate the birth of a child. The mother is presented with the ring either shortly before she gives birth or shortly after the child has been born. Eternity rings come in both half and full designs and can be set with either diamonds, gemstones, or a combination of both. The most common tradition is to have the ring set with diamonds alongside the gemstones representing the birthstone of the child. The mother’s birthstone is sometimes included as well. The dilemma arises when a couple has a second child. While the tradition behind the eternity ring is often stated as being meant for only the first child, many couples with to commemorate the birth of their second child and additional siblings as well. In this case, there are two possible options to consider for either modifying or adding to the original eternity ring.

One of the most popular options is to simply remove one or two stones from the original band and replace them with the birthstone of the second child. If you are removing diamonds, some couples use the stones to make a pair of earrings to give as a gift for the first child. If the children happen to share the same birthstone, the couple may choose to have the birth dates of both children engraved on the inside of the ring.

The second option is to choose to stack your eternity rings. If you first ring was set completely with diamonds, the second can be set with diamonds as well, each engraved with the birth date of the child it is commemorating. If the first ring included the child’s birthstone, the second can be designed to mirror the original ring, substituting the gemstones for the appropriate corresponding colors. If it is cumbersome to wear multiple rings on one finger, the individual rings can be welded together to create a single piece of jewelry. If the couple is on a budget, which is more likely to be the case as the number of children increases, diamonds don’t necessarily have to be a part of the ring. Some women prefer eternity rings set solely with the birthstones of the child, drastically reducing the cost of the ring. This also makes it much more cost effective when adding stackable rings to the set. If you still want the extra sparkle of a diamond, you can always choose to have one set as a center stone surrounded on either side by the birthstones.

Eternity Rings – Perfect Gift For Vow Renewals

Eternity Rings – Perfect Gift For Vow Renewals

If you and your spouse are getting ready to renew your vows, it can be difficult to come up with ideas on what you can exchange during the ceremony instead of the wedding rings that you already have. Some couple use a vow renewal as a time to upgrade their original bridal set. Often, over the years, financial situations improve, making it more feasible to have a more expensive bridal set. If you are not interested in straying from your original set, however, there is another option.

Eternity rings are designed to represent the unending love a couple shares with each other throughout their relationship. They can also be used to signify the unending bond between a mother and her child if given as a gift when the child is born. Because of the first significance, eternity rings are often given as anniversary gifts. Eternity rings, however, also make the perfect ring to present to your wife during a vow renewal ceremony to show that after having been married to her already, your love for her is still unending.

If you do decide to give an eternity ring, there are several ways it can be worn. The most traditional way is to wear it on your ring finger along with your original engagement ring and wedding band. Some women, however, find this somewhat cumbersome and prefer other alternatives. An eternity ring can also be used to replace the original wedding band. Since most wedding bands are somewhat plain in design, the eternity ring will add a new sparkle and shine to the wedding set, giving it new life as you renew your wedding vows together. The third option is to wear the eternity ring on your right hand, separate from your bridal set. This is the preferable option when you neither want to wear three rings on one finger, nor do you wish to give up any part of your original bridal set.

Regardless of which way you choose to wear eternity rings, using one to celebrate a renewal of vows is the perfect way to show that the love you had for each other the first time you said your vows is not only still going strong, but you plan on it lasting forever.

Eternity Ring For Mother’s Day? Why Not?

30 April 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Eternity Ring For Mother’s Day? Why Not?

More and more consumers are realizing that diamond rings aren’t just for engagements anymore. Thanks to some clever marketing campaigns by the big boys in the industry, as well as consumer demand for diamond rings that aren’t necessarily part of the bridal jewelry market, the selection of dazzling diamonds for any occasion has increased dramatically. With Mother’s Day fast approaching (in the USA!), why not take the time to consider a new way to present the gift of a beautiful diamond eternity ring?

Most mothers expect a visit or phone call on Mother’s Day, possibly a card in the mail, sometimes even a nice bouquet of flowers. While the sentiment may be sweet and the meaning behind the gifts genuine, why not pick this Mothers Day to surprise her with the gift of a diamond eternity ring?

While the eternity ring was designed to be a gift commemorating an anniversary or the birth of a child, why not break from tradition (or even create your own) and use this Mother’s Day as a way to present your mom an eternity ring to celebrate the gift of life she gave to you so many years ago. Since the tradition of the eternity ring as a celebration of a child is still a rather recent one, most mothers with older children never had the chance to receive one. As her child, there’s no better time than the present. You can opt for either a full or half eternity ring set with diamonds, or even choose to have her birthstone paired with yours within the ring. If you have siblings, the gift of an eternity ring is the perfect gift to give from all of you, providing additional birthstone colors to add to the ring to really make it sparkle.

There’s no reason the major diamond marketers should be the only ones able to set tradition for which rings should be given on which occasions. There is no better time than the present to begin creating your own family traditions either. While mom is most likely expecting a nice lunch out with her kids and a fragrant bunch of flowers to display proudly on her mantle for a few days, an eternity ring from her children is a gift that will last much, much longer and give her something to look at every day to remind how just how blessed she is to be a mother.

Customising Your Eternity Ring

29 April 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Customising Your Eternity Ring

One of the things people tend to like most about their most cherished pieces of diamond jewellery are typically related to the uniqueness of the piece. While classic designs still remain popular, and will continue to do so for years to come, there is a certain appeal to owning a piece that is able to strike up a conversation and get noticed for something other than sheer size. When it comes to eternity rings, many people don’t seem to realise just how many options they have to make their ring appear as one of a kind as possible.

One of the easiest ways to add a touch of uniqueness to your eternity ring is with a splash of color. It is a widely accepted tradition to include the birthstone gems of the child, the mother, or both in an eternity ring that is being given to commemorate the birth of a child. When multiple children are born, subsequent birthstones can be added to the ring as well. Given the number of beautiful birthstone gems on the market, this is one of the quickest ways to have your eternity ring noticed. For an extra touch of flair, consider using coloured diamonds in place of the birthstones. With the wide variety of both natural and lab created coloured diamonds on the market, it is easy to find a colour close in shade to the birthstone gem. Many people actually favor coloured diamonds over their similarly coloured birthstones because of the increased vividness of colour that the diamonds can offer.

Another way to make your eternity ring unique is by the shape of stones you select to comprise the ring. Princess cut and emerald cut are two of the most popular choices for eternity rings because of the symmetry they offer when set side by side. While these two cuts do, in fact, make for beautiful rings, if you are looking for something unique there are a few other choices. A simple classic cut round stone in an eternity ring makes for a very eye catching piece. While still symmetrical in appearance, the round cut stones offer a larger area of open space between the stones that can be filled in with precious meta or left somewhat open to allow even more light in to his the stones. Another hot trend is somewhat mismatched stones. Once again, still symmetrical in nature, many rings can be found that are comprised of two different shapes of stones in an alternating pattern. One of the most visually striking examples is an eternity ring that includes both round cut stones and princess cut stones laid side by side.

The Four Cs Of Eternity Rings

22 April 2010 | Purely Diamonds

The Four Cs Of Eternity Rings

While most people only think of the four c’s of diamond classification when buying a solitaire stone, taking them into account when selecting an eternity ring is just as important, if not more so. In a diamond solitaire ring, cut, clarity, color, and carat weight all play a major part in the overall appearance of the ring. However, because it is a solitaire ring, lower ratings in one or more of the four categories may not be as noticeable as one might think.

Colour is one of the best examples to use to explain this. For example, if a solitaire ring has a slight yellowish tint to it, this can sometimes go unnoticed since there is no point of reference for the single stone. In an eternity ring, on the other hand, it is crucial to ensure every stone in the ring is as close to one another in colour rating as possible. Since the ring contains multiple stones, all set side by side, any colour variations between the stones can become blatantly obvious. Reputable jewelers will always select stones with identical or nearly identical colour ratings to ensure the stones are all coherent in appearance.

Clarity is a similar factor when selecting stones that can be just as vital as colour. While it isn’t necessary to have every stone rated high on the clarity level, the stones should all be similar in their clarity rating. Most consumers wouldn’t be able to afford an eternity ring comprised solely of flawless stones. Regardless of the clarity rating, however, the stones should be able to present a uniform appearance.

When it comes to carat weight, a jeweller must also be careful to choose stones that are all identical or nearly identical carat weights to be set into an eternity ring. Since multiple stones are set into the ring, any variation in carat weight can cause an uneven appearance or potentially lead to a loose setting. As long as all of the stones in the ring are as close to the same size as possible, the ring will have a sleeker appearance and the setting will be able to properly secure each stone snugly.

Cut is another important factor in stones chosen for eternity rings. While most people believe that the cut of a stone describes its shape, it actually refers to the way the stone’s surface is cleaved and shaped. The cut of a stone can significantly affect the sparkle and fire that a stone contains. Similar or identical diamond cuts produce a visually cohesive eternity ring.

The Growing Uses For Eternity Rings – Part 2

13 March 2010 | Purely Diamonds

The Growing Uses For Eternity Rings – Part 2

We’ve already seen the uses for eternity rings as anniversary gifts, their more modern intended use, as well as the growing trend for brides to use them in place of a plainer wedding band. There are, however, several other uses for eternity rings and women aren’t the only ones who can appreciate the beauty of the diamond ring.

Grooms, for one, are keeping with the tradition of a simpler wedding band, however, they are beginning to purchase eternity rings that match their bride’s rings in style and design. These eternity rings are used to wear for special occasions, essentially making it a ‘dress’ wedding band for men. This not only shows that men can wear diamonds just as well as women can, it furthers the continued trend of diamond rings becoming more of a unisex accessory, as it already has with diamond earrings.

The tradition of presenting a woman with an eternity ring when she gives birth to, or adopts, a child is still commonly practiced as well. When given on this occasion, it is also common practice to accent the diamonds in the rings with the birthstone of the child and the mother, or the child alone. Eternity rings are given, according to tradition, only upon the birth of the first child. Many couples with more than one child either choose to ignore this part of the tradition and stack the rings that represent each additional child, or the original ring can be reset to include the birthstone of the new child as well. Either way, these are both accepted methods for situations involving multiple children.

Single women who choose to wear dress rings or right hand rings, a sign of independence and a show that even a single woman should be allowed the luxury of diamond rings, are also opting for diamond eternity rings. Even married women often wear their eternity rings on their right hand. Tradition states that an eternity ring should be used to replace a plain wedding band and worn with the engagement ring, or worn in addition to the wedding and engagement rings on the same finger. If the eternity ring don’t work well when worn together with the engagement ring or the bridal set, it is acceptable to wear on the right hand.

As you can see, the eternity ring has come a long way from simply being a anniversary gift and, with time, will most likely become used for an even wider variety of occasions.

The Growing Uses For Eternity Rings – Part 1

13 March 2010 | Purely Diamonds

The Growing Uses For Eternity Rings-Part 1

While diamond eternity rings are a fairly new concept, the idea behind eternity rings dates back over 4,000 years. No where near as luxurious as diamonds, early examples of eternity rings were made from a variety of materials, including wood, bone, copper, and even stone. Thanks to a cleverly planned advertising campaign initiated by De Beers, coincidentally the largest diamond distributor in the world, diamonds became known as the ultimate symbol of love and romance. As their famous motto says, ‘a diamond is forever’. Because of this, the diamond eternity ring is the accepted style of today.

Anniversaries

When eternity rings came back into fashion in modern times, they were intended to represent the bonds of eternal love a couple had created in marriage. Eternity rings were given as an anniversary gift, typically on the ten year anniversary, recommended on the modern anniversary gift list for the proper time to present a diamond as a gift. De Beers, however, somehow managed to convince the general public that there was no reason a husband shouldn’t present his bride with an eternity rings on their first anniversary. The media joked that this was only because the first year of marriage can often feel like an eternity. The joke was warmly welcomed by men, not so much by the female population.

Wedding Bands

Today, eternity rings are used for a much wider number of occasions than just anniversaries. Some brides, and even the occasional groom, have begun using diamond eternity rings in place of their wedding bands. While traditional wedding bands were simple and plain, brides decided that they need a bit more sparkle in their bridal set and opted for both half and full eternity rings over plain metal bands. This trend is proof positive that a woman can never have too many diamonds.

While eternity rings were originally marketed as anniversary gifts, their uses have quickly expanded beyond that scope. Anniversary gifts and bridal wedding bands are just the beginning.

Eternity Ring – the Perfect Answer For a Tight Economy

11 March 2010 | Purely Diamonds

Eternity Ring – the Perfect Answer For a Tight Economy

While an eternity ring may not seem like the best purchase when times are tight, more and more couples are seeking out these diamond bands for bridal jewellery. Since they represent and symbolize eternal love, they are perfect when used as wedding rings. The biggest trend, however, that seems to be emerging is the dual purpose eternity ring.

While celebrity couples are constantly splashed across the headlines for the sizes of the rocks on their fingers, not all Hollywood starlets choose to be known for their jewellery. Celebrities such as Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, and the ever elegant Meryl Streep, all choose to wear eternity rings as opposed to lavish diamond rings, even though we all know they can afford them.

Following in their celebrity footsteps were the socialites of New York City, a large group of women who could definitely afford the kinds of diamond rings that make headlines, but chose instead to go with the sophisticated eternity ring. As with most trends that start in Hollywood and work themselves into socialite circles, it is beginning to circulate rather quickly among the rest of the population.

With the economy still tight, couples are opting to use the eternity ring as both the engagement ring and the wedding ring. This allows the bride to be to have a diamond ring to wear, but also allows her to use it as her wedding ring as well, saving money on a separate ring while also following the one ring trend that is growing in popularity. Even the couples that can afford larger stones are still going with this option. It seems that women are moving back to the less is more mentality and prefer a simple eternity ring over a garish diamond ring that will draw more attention to their finger than to themselves.

The Benefits Of Five Stone Eternity Rings

11 March 2010 | Purely Diamonds

The Benefits Of Five Stone Eternity Rings

When most people think of eternity rings, they picture a solid band, set with diamonds around the entire ring. While these rings are, in fact, beautiful, they can also be rather expensive. Another option is whats referred to as a half eternity ring. In this particular design, the diamonds are only set on the upper portion of the ban, leaving the lower half as simply the continuation of the band in precious metal. Half eternity rings are significantly less expensive than full eternity bands, primarily because they have half as many gemstones set within them. For an even more affordable eternity ring, you should consider the five stone eternity ring, a variation on the half band design.

A five stone eternity ring is, simply enough, an eternity ring set with five diamonds on the upper half of the ring. Unlike a full eternity ring, which is set completely around, or a half eternity ring, which is set on the upper half side, a five stone eternity ring has stones that occupy a portion of the ring that is slightly less than half the band. While cost is one main benefit of going with a five stone eternity ring as opposed to the other designs, there are other factors to consider as well.

The primary reason a lot of women actually prefer a smaller number of diamonds on their eternity rings is comfort. Unless your eternity ring is channel set, which creates a primarily flush surface on the outside of the ring, some full eternity rings can be uncomfortable when worn constantly. Even half eternity rings have a portion of the stone setting that will rest in the spaces where your finger rests up against the two that sit beside it. Additionally, even if the diamonds are all channel set and flush within the ring, the thickness of the stones within the setting may be uncomfortable for some wearers.

With a five stone eternity ring, however, the diamond setting tends to only extend to just above where your fingers meet one another, eliminating the potential of discomfort. The portion of the band that is not set with stones can also be made very thin, with rounded edges, for maximum comfort levels when being worn. This not only makes a five stone eternity ring more affordable, it also increases the ability to wear the ring daily without discomfort.
