For women, marriage in ancient Sparta was less than glamorous. For a bride in this era, the morning would be spent shaving their heads, and they were also required to dress in full male attire. They were then required to wait alone in a room, to be 'Stolen away' by the Spartan man. Historians believe that the reason for the cross dressing was to ease the spartans into a Heterosexual lifestyle as they were well known to be avid practitioners of same sex activity.
