Princess Eugenie and the Diamond & Emerald Tiara

The world was watching last Friday when HRH Princess Eugenie of York married Mr Jack Brooksbank at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. Wearing a stunning wedding dress by designer Peter Pilotto that featured a low back and wide train, Eugenie was every inch the blushing bride.

At Purely Diamonds, we waited with baited breath to see what jewellery she would be pairing with her bridal gown and we were not disappointed. Princess Eugenie wore a beautiful emerald and diamond tiara with matching earrings.

Here’s all you need to know about her sparkling choices and the emerald gemstone:

Tiara

The tiara was on loan from her grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen. Made in 1919 by Boucheron, the fabulous headpiece is known as the Greville Kokoshnik Emerald Tiara. Originally owned by Dame Margaret Greville, the tiara was bequeathed to Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother upon Dame Margaret’s death and subsequently passed down to HM Queen Elizabeth upon the death of her mother.

With a central emerald of 93.70, the tiara has rarely been seen in public since 1942 and was a beautiful surprise for the day, as it was rumoured she would wear the same tiara as her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York.

Earrings

Initially thought to be from the Queen’s collection, it has since been said that these emerald and diamond drop earrings were a wedding gift from her new husband, Jack. With increasing drops of 7 round diamonds each and with focal emeralds at the base, the earrings matched perfectly with the loaned tiara.

Emerald Facts

  • The world’s oldest emeralds are 2.97 billion years old!
  • Inclusions are very common in an emerald and referred to as a garden.
  • Emeralds are the birthstone of May.

Emerald stones are the most precious stone that comes from the beryl species of gemstone family. It is the presence of chromium within the beryl that gives the specific “emerald green” colour.

According to ancient Hindu writing, emeralds bring good luck and improve your well-being – a suitable choice for Princess Eugenie on her wedding day.
