In Germany, Polterabend ( which roughly translates to “ghost evening”), is also the term for a German wedding custom where on the night before the wedding, the guests break porcelain to bring luck to the couple's marriage. This usually takes place on the Friday evening before the wedding, and is traditionally celebrated with more gusto than the actual wedding festivities!
