The History

The Meaning

Named after the Latin for "sea water" - an Aquamarine is justly titled due to its luscious sea blue colouring. Aquamarine rings typically feature emerald cut or oval shaped gems because of the density of the colour.

The largest aquamarine ever mined was found in 1910 in Marambaia, Brazil. The magnificent gem weighed a spectacular 110 kilograms and measured an impressive 48.5 cm by 42 cm in diameter.

Aquamarine, like emerald gemstones, is a variety of the mineral, beryl. It is said to bring the wearer strength and provide protection in battle. The ancient Romans even believed it to be a cure for laziness.

If you're lucky enough to celebrate your 19th wedding anniversary, then aquamarine rings are the suggested gift. Equally, for those born in March, aquamarine is your chosen gemstone.
