Diamond colour refers to the natural tint present in a stone, graded from colourless to light yellow or brown, with colourless diamonds considered the most rare and valuable.
While a diamond can split light into a rainbow of colours, any natural tint acts like a filter and reduces this effect. The less colour present, the higher the grade – and the more brilliantly the diamond will appear.
The colour scale runs from D (completely colourless) to Z (noticeably tinted). Diamonds graded D, E, or F are exceptionally rare and command premium prices, though to the untrained eye the difference between them is almost impossible to spot.
Near-colourless grades G to J offer excellent value, with G and H often called ‘rare white’ – a highly sought-after balance of beauty and price.
Diamonds listed below are the qualities available at Purely Diamonds
The highest colour grade a diamond can receive. D colour diamonds are completely colourless, exceptionally rare, and therefore command the highest prices.
The second-highest grade, E colour diamonds are classed as colourless. Any trace of colour is so minimal it can only be detected by an expert under close examination.
The most affordable of the premium colourless grades (D, E, F). F colour diamonds are still considered colourless, with only very slight tints visible to an expert gemmologist.
The highest of the near-colourless group. G colour diamonds may show a faint tint when compared directly with higher grades, but once set they face up as beautifully white, making them an excellent balance of quality and value.
